Video tapes have an expiration date. In
fact, they begin to lose information immediately after being
recorded. Let us preserve your irreplaceable videos by
converting them to DVD. The videotape was never meant to be a
long term storage media. Video data is stored on videotapes
through magnetic particles that adhere to the plastic tape
material. Videotapes continually release their magnetic
information overtime until the tape is eventually
unplayable. The average lifetime of a video tape is only 15
years. The quality of the video gets progressively worse
with time. Equally as bad, simply playing a videotape causes
some wear. DVDs, on the other hand, have ideal
characteristics for long-term storage.
DVDs will last a minimum of 100 years.
Some tests suggest that their lifetime is actually in excess
of 500 years. DVDs never wear out, so they can be played
millions of times without losing any quality. The data
surface on DVDs is optical, not magnetic. DVD data is
digital, so copies are exactly the same quality as the
original.
